Terri Burleson, CD (DONA)

I am the mother to three wonderful children who are all grown. I’ve been married for 32 years and after 17 years of being a doula, I am grateful for this job now more than ever as we transition to a new season of life with our grown kids. After experiencing my own births and those of my close friends, I was drawn to work as a doula. Through these experiences I gained a deeper appreciation for the value of caring, nurturing support during labor. I was fortunate enough to deliver all of my children naturally and realize this could not have happened without the extra support I received during my labor and delivery.
I have been a doula since 2007 and have had the opportunity to attend a variety of births including medicated, non-medicated, multiples, VBAC’s and home births. I use many tools to help a woman cope in labor including massage, pressure points, movement, aromatherapy and I am trained in using a TENS unit and have units that I let my clients use for their labor. I love teaching some of the tricks I have learned over the years to the dad and helping him feel a part of the birth. My goal is for the mom and dad to feel like “WE did it” as they hold their sweet baby.  I feel passionate about a woman’s power and ability to have the kind of birth experience she longs for. Birth is a beautiful, powerful and natural event. I believe that during labor, a mom needs to surround herself with people that believe in her ability and trust her body and I am always honored when chosen to be a part of that team. I also have a special place in my heart for helping families incorporate their Christian faith in their pregnancy and birth. A woman remembers her birth forever…she may not remember the specific details, but she will remember how she felt. She will remember if she was loved and supported, or if she felt fearful and intimidated. I have no magic powers, but I hope my presence helps those memories be as positive as they can be.
I work all along the front range and have worked in most of the area hospitals, birth centers, and even a few homes. If I could give 100 stars I would! I just had my first baby, and Terri provided the knowledge, emotional, and physical support that I never knew my family needed. I only opted for a Doula because it was recommended by a dear friend, and I didn't want my first labor to be shorted in any way. I like to be prepared in all aspects of life, and my first birth was no exception. That choice ended up being one of the best I've ever made-- for myself, my husband, and my baby boy. Trust me, my standards are high, and she absolutely exceeded any expectation I had. Her experience and compassion truly set her apart from other Doulas, and anyone who chooses to include her in their journey is already blessed beyond words!

Nothing Can Compare to Them

Had it not been for Terri and Tammy, by husband and I would have been lost. They remained calm, remained surefooted and reassured us that everything was ok. Absolutely Phenomenal

I was privileged to have both Terri and Tammy during my first birth experience, and what an amazing experience it was to have them as my Doulas They are absolutely phenomenal! They stayed very focused and attentive to my every need for over fifteen hours during my labor. They were very encouraging, compassionate, and comforting. Their constant support and creative ideas helped me achieve my goal of a natural childbirth. They also offered consistent support to my family, and everyone including the nursing staff was amazed by them. They compliment each other and are an exceptional team. She Lent Stability

Terri's knowledge and confidence in past experiences was obvious and helpful. Her knowledge of what was coming up (order of events) lent some stability to an otherwise foreign situation.

Terri is amazing! I was able to give birth to my daughter unmedicated in a hospital setting and I 100% could not have done that without her. The support she provided in pregnancy, in early labor, and active labor helped me manage fear and pain, and she helped baby get into a better position. We Wouldn’t Change a Thing

Tammy & Terri made our experience wonderful. We wouldn't change a thing and we would love to have them at our next birth. I don't think my husband would have left to eat or taken a nap if they weren't there.

Terri Knows Every Trick in the Book

Terri is absolutely amazing! I am so glad we decided to "splurge" on a doula for my second birth--and so is my husband who laughs at how naive we were, thinking we could do it alone. Terri did a superb job at mimicking my breathing so I could stay on top of the contractions. Terri coached me so well that I never made it to the point of desperation. I remained calm and collected throughout the entire process. Terri knows every trick in the book of helping you through this challenge. Her skillful massage was a nice added perk! Although she is not a professional photographer, the pictures she took were tasteful and I will cherish them immensely! I am sincerely thankful for Terri's skillful and caring support!
